Why are we so fascinated by skulls and bones? Is it because they sit at the boundary of existence and speculation, that they outlast the stories that shaped them and therewith dare us to contemplate what it means to be temporary? Or is their display a reminder of our everquest to understand out existence, our biology?——-In any case it is fascinating and challenging to wonder through a Garden of Bones, especially when they are made of wood.

    Acer saccharinum [Maple]: In October 2017, the Tubbs Fire engulfed the Coffey Park neighborhood of Santa Rosa, leaving a scorched tree trunk on Hemlock St.

    Sequoia sempervirens [Redwood]: A sapling dropped into a hole in the ground grew for many years until the tree trunk encompassed the black plastic of the container
